Solar Sister is a group that helps to provide clean energy to women and girls in Uganda, Tanzania, and Nigeria. Their mission is to eradicate energy poverty by empowering women with economic opportunity. “We are creating deliberately woman-centered direct sales network to bring the breakthrough potential of clean energy technology to even the most remote communities in rural Africa.”
Energy poverty is the lack of access to electricity and clean cooking facilities. Without this access, women would have more time to read, and become educated. Solar Sister focuses on radical entrepreneurship, transformative opportunity, trust, sisterhood, courage, and grit. These values help the team move forward in the right direction. Caroline Mailloux, Director of Engagement, says that they “work in the last mile, the hardest and most remote geographies, tapping into social networks to overcome geographical challenges that otherwise might make it difficult for solar energy technology to reach.”
The Solar Sisters are members who make impacts on many lives. The team benefits 200,000 people. You can donate to Solar Sister and keep up with them on social media.
