Care2 is an online community of people from around the world committed to making a difference in healthy and green living, human rights, and animal welfare. Currently the community has more than 12 million members, and Care2 provides provide the resources for members to get informed about important causes, take small steps towards healthy and green living, and take action to better the world. Their mission is “to make the world a better place by leveraging the power of the Internet to empower the widest number of people to engage on any level to make a difference.”
They chose the logo of a butterfly drawing from the concept of a “butterfly effect” where one small change can have extensive impacts, with the belief that their community can help individuals influence large-scale change if they globally band together. Their current causes include petitioning South Carolina to take down the Confederate flag, banning Orca captivity, global recycling initiatives, health care provision of birth control, and preventing child marriage, among many others.
Care2 is an excellent example of how individuals from around the world, coming from different cultures and backgrounds, can find common ground and work together despite geographic boundaries. Connecting our world is crucial if any global environmental and social changes are going to occur.
