Desolenator: Using Solar Power to Desalinate Water

Most methods of desalination require reverse osmosis and fossil fuels. This product does not require fossil fuels, and is the cheapest method of this scale.

Gal Moore, from Business Development, says that “water is the building block of life and of societies.” Billions of people face water shortages, and even though the earth has more water than land, it is not accessible to drinking because it is salt water. Taking the salt out of water, desalinating, is expensive and requires a lot of energy. With this technology, all people would need to do is collect salt water and put it in the Desolenator.

There are many ways to desalinate water, but none are cheap, and all of them are difficult to do on a large scale. In the mean time, small-scale water sources can help individuals. The Desolenator team is “dreaming of the day when every community that has struggled to access clean water has a Desolenator whizzing away in the background making clean and safe water for them to drink.” Gal Moore believes that “renewable desalination is definitely going to become a main method of desalination eventually, and if Desolenator can be part of this revolution then we will know we’ve done our job successfully.”
