Map of the Week: Carnival Around the Globe

On February 18th, festivities in Brazil began as parades and revelry filled the streets all over the country. Not the only nation to anticipate Lent with such rejoicing, this map attempts to chronicle some of the other nations with a pre-Lenten Carnaval. 54 countries and unique regions make up this list of festive participants.

Countries not included may celebrate a carnival or festive season, but based on research these were not based around Lent and were omitted. For example, Chile celebrates its own carnival in January; however, this festivity is based around peace among Andean communities instead.
