Map of the Week: Mapping U.S. Garbage

This map was featured in an article published on the treehugger website. The article is called “Trash by the numbers: Startling statistics about US garbage”  and was written by Melissa Breyer, a managing editor for the website.  The article mentions several interesting figures about U.S. garbage. The article claims that there is an estimated 2000+ active landfills in America.  The article also mentions that about 22 billion plastic bottles are thrown out each year and that Americans generate  approximately  254 million tons of trash. How is your state doing with its recycling and garbage management?
