Introducing Iman Mamdouh: AGS Spring Scholar-Intern

Hello and nice to meet you!

My name is Iman Lynn Mamdouh, I am 20 years old and I study at Macaulay Honors College at CUNY Hunter College. My academic interests are in sustainable development and globalization which all stem from my Advanced Placement Environmental Science (APES) class I took in my senior year of high school. My love for the social aspects of science led me to major in Urban and Social Geography and minor in Environmental Studies. For someone who comes from a cultural background that is an amalgamation of various international cultures, I enjoy learning new languages and reading about international lifestyles. My life goal is to be an ambassador for businesses and governments that wish to provide goods and services in an environmentally sustainable manner that is also sensitive to the cultural and geographical differences of the world.

I am very aware of how few and far in between geography majors are (most people mistake me for a geology major which is, in fact, not the same thing). Because of this reality, it was a journey to find career paths and internships that properly reflected my academic interests until I stumbled across the American Geographical Society. I look forward to interning at the American Geographical Society where I will have the opportunity to interview companies that make great strides in the geographic field as well as blog about current topics surrounding geography.
